I need a new protagonist. So far, I have a PTSD Iraq vet, a trust fund baby (young woman), a very efficient single mom, a burglar and I came up with a homophobic truck driver last night but I don't like him. I can't see spending 10,000 words with this guy. Suggestions?
Kind of difficult to wash coating chocolate off your hands with cold water. But at least it's water. Woke in the night to the sound of water rushing through the pipes and a warm flood under the kitchen. Kurt turned off the whole house. Discovered later that if we cut off the water heater, we could run the rest of the plumbing. Not going to call a repairman on Sunday.
Smoking Pen won't load, Occupy Nashville's livestream isn't working, Kurt's working a party (he's a stage lighting tech) until about 2am. Got home from Occupy assembly in time to throw together a quick dinner and watch the news. It's cold outside, warm inside and the dog is sorta snoring. There's more Occupy stuff going on but I'm home. I have a beautiful evening of nothing planned.
Update on the visit. They are traveling in a camper they just bought, heading to a vacation in Arkansas. They hit a tire on the highway and it broke the blackwater box off the RV, so they went back home. They're going to try again after they get it replaced, but they will have to order the part.
An old friend, one who had been my best friend when our children were small, is coming through Nashville with her boyfriend-of-several-years tonight. I've never met him. I knew her during her rocky, sometimes violent marriage, a far different life that she has now. Looking forward to it and hoping it's not awkward. We had moved in different directions even while we still lived in Raleigh, but we could still count on each other if need be. Need to clean up my house.
This is the first time I'm watching the east coast batten down for a hurricane and I don't live there. It's kind of surreal. Those NC beach shots are all familiar places.
Started a new short story. I didn't map it out, just began writing. As usual, I found myself writing in a male voice. It's been a few years since I wrote from a female point of view. Does this mean something? Why are my protagonists always guys?
I don't submit often, but I've begun trying to get a few of my stories out there. I came across this manuscript guideline on a literary magazine website. Some of you probably already know this stuff, but some of you folks might find it useful. I did. http://www.shunn.net/format/story.html
Ivy's here for a short visit. We went to the Jack Daniels Distillery for a tour. Lots of fun, nice day trip. Got home and cooked one of her favorite meals so she could learn to make it herself. Making some bread for her to take back.
Went to Literary Libations last night for the first time. It's a networking event. Really, it's a bunch of writers that meet for drinks once a month in the historic Union Station Hotel. Mostly published authors, but they didn't seem to mind a few amateurs joining in.

Fortunately for us, they were south of us, moving northeast, We got the storms, but the brunt of it hit Alabama. I feel awful for them. It's a mess down there.

Dreaded bug has bitten. Not sure if I'll catch it. My little Sarah, granddaughter (3) has gastroenteritis and was put in hospital tonight. I'm praying for her recovery and my immunity.

If you don't hear from me for a few days, you have a clue. LOL.

NINA! How are you? What a funny name for you blog. I should have thought of it. Fortunately, I post only to Multiply, which sends it to Blogger which sends it to Facebook! LOL.

Went by the pen tonight but I'm so tired and depressed I just couldn't do more than read Kat's last post. I'll get back over and do something.

to-do

The weekend everyone at work has been dreading for months is over. We had some much booked that we rented a refrigerated truck to use as an extra walk-in cooler, then loaded it up for one of the weddings. Now I have two days off, and lots to do.... more
